Gifts For Beginning Quilters

Who doesn't love a good gift guide this time of year?!

I just LOVE the challenge of coming up with the most original, unique, perfect for that person gift!

This week I'm going to focus on gift ideas for that dear friend in your life
who always talks about wanting to learn, get better at, or make more time for, a certain craft.
(And if that dear friend is you, maybe give you some ideas of things to put on your list!)

Today let's start out with gifts for beginning quilters!

Books -

The Practical Guide to Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman would be a great book for learning to quilt!
I have it on hold (it's a looong hold) at the library and can't wait to get my mitts on it.
She discusses all the basics of learning how to piece, quilt, and bind your first ever quilt,
and the designs she shares are so fresh and modern.

Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg is on my Christmas list this year,
I love this book so much!
This book focuses on making creative, modern, and clean scrap quilts,
and she teaches you improvisational piecing with your scraps,
a quilting skill I am very eager to start trying out.

Tools -

This Fiskars Rotary Cutting Set would be such a fabulous gift for a beginning quilter!
Thankfully really all you need to start quilting are
a sharp rotary cutter, a straight ruler, a cutting mat, and a sewing machine,
and this little set knocks out three of the four without too much cost!

Quilters also need to have a stash of batting,
and this Warm and White Cotton Batting is my favorite brand.
It's 100% cotton, makes any white fabric in your quilt just pop with brightness,
and you can buy it in these pre-cut sizes that would make a great gift.

The Fun Stuff! -

What every craft-o-phile wants, no matter their passion, is some shiny new designer fabric!!

For a quilter, a great gift would be a set of pre-cut fabrics, like this Moda Bluebird Park Charm Pack.
Most designer fabric lines also come out with charm packs or jelly rolls
which contain pre-cut pieces of most or all of the fabrics in their line.
These are a great way for a beginning quilter to build up their stash without too much cost.
I have a couple different charms packs on my list that's for sure!

You can also buy fabrics in Fat Quarters Packs.
Fat quarters are large enough to give you room to cut different style pieces,
but small enough that you can buy a whole bunch of cute fabrics without feeling too guilty ;]
At least that's what I tell myself when I'm browsing for fabric!
